Thank you for your interest in participating in our study of SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19/Novel Coronavirus) in healthcare workers!
As a healthcare worker, you are on the front lines of the COVID-19 pandemic. This could put you or your household members at increased risk for COVID-19 infection. The UNC School of Medicine and Gillings School of Public Health are conducting a study among healthcare workers and their household members that will examine exposure-related risk factors for COVID-19 and seroconversion (development of COVID-19 antibodies) over time.
You are able to participate in this study if you are actively providing care or support services in the emergency department, inpatient wards, intensive care units, or respiratory diagnostic center at UNCMC. This includes, but is not limited to, physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, nursing assistants, respiratory, physical, or occupational therapists, and environmental health employees.
- Complete an online survey, blood draw, and nasal swab every 2 weeks
- Complete a shorter, daily online survey about work activities and exposures
- Report any symptoms or diagnosis of COVID-19 to the study team
Participants will be closely monitored for COVID-19 and receive information about their antibody levels at each two-week interval at the end of the study. Randomly selected participants will be offered a household investigation, which will allow members of their household to participate in the study and be monitored for COVID-19.
We appreciate the work and skill you are providing to help individuals with COVID-19, and we know that your health and the health of your family is important to you. We hope your participation and the results of this study will be valuable in identifying exposure-related risk factors and learning more about how viruses like COVID-19 impact our front-line healthcare workers. Thank you for all you do!
